CHOOSING A PROFESSIONAL MOVER

Ask a family member or friends for recommendations; I only recommend one ☺; you’ll be overwhelmed with flyers and mail once you’ve sold, google them, due diligence is key; determine the size, distance and timing of your move; choose between a ‘self-service’ move (you pack and unpack) or a ‘full service’ move (the moving company packs and unpacks); obtain written cost estimate; review insurance coverage: there are 3 types: standard, assessed value and full replacement coverage.

IMPORTANT CHECKLIST ITEMS

Remember to Notify…water and electric power company (Power Stream), gas company (Enbridge), local telephone, cable and internet company (Rogers/Bell), investment advisor, insurance broker, credit card companies, banks, children’s schools, magazines subscriptions, religious organizations, sports clubs; update driver’s licence and health cards (if applicable); send out address change notices to friends and family. Arrange the timing of the shut-off and start-up of utilities so that you will be sure not to be without electricity, water, gas, or phone service. Give yourself ample time on both ends to compensate for potential delays. Your solicitor typically looks after the utility accounts.

…..and remember to also get copies of medical, dental, immunization, school, and veterinarian records; pick up any dry cleaning; cleaning supplies for cleaning after movers have loaded everything; leave garage door opener behind; gather up all the house keys and leave for the new homeowner; keep new address handy at all times.
